5th Annual NHEF Scholars Orientation Program

On Thursday, July 1st, 2021, the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) welcomed a new cohort for the 5th Annual NHEF Scholars Program. Students from our six Partner Universities – Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and University of Port Harcourt – were selected to participate in an intensive career development training program .

Through a rigorous selection process, the NHEF Scholars Program has continued to identify academically talented and leadership-oriented undergraduate students in their penultimate year from NHEF Partner Universities and assist them in career development. Since launching the program, the NHEF has provided intensive career and skills training, internships, and employment support to nearly 200 Scholars and is building a community of well-educated young Nigerians assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in Nigeria and across the globe.

The 2021 NHEF Scholars Program was a lifetime experience for the Scholars, as they were exposed to diverse career development courses and in-demand skills in the business space which are necessary for the successful transition into the workforce. The Orientation Program featured a Speaker Series, an interactive initiative of the NHEF Career Development Program that welcomes prominent industry experts to share unique insights from their personal and professional experience with our student network. Our Speakers encouraged the Scholars to aspire to achieve more and to always be prepared because success in life is a healthy combination of “preparation meets opportunity”.

The 2021 Scholars Program Orientation has been a life-changing opportunity for many of our Scholars. In the words of one of the Scholars, “The Orientation gave me an opportunity to learn what I would not have learnt in school and that was what really stood out for me. I have been equipped with the essential skills needed to excel in the corporate world…”, This further goes to cement the role the NHEF plays in developing higher education in Nigeria. The NHEF has continued to inspire young Nigerians to achieve their greatest potential.

The NHEF is a 501(c)(3) organization founded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 2004. The NHEF is committed to enhancing the capacity of higher education institutions in Nigeria. Our mission is to raise awareness about the role of higher education and Nigerian universities in social, economic, and political development.
