NHEF and Federal Ministry of Education Convene University Advancement Program Workshop for Federal Universities

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, is convening the NHEF University Advancement Program (NUAP) Workshop, a national capacity-building initiative designed to institutionalize professional advancement practices across Nigeria’s Federal Universities.

As part of the Federal Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Maruf Alausa, CON’s, national advancement efforts to strengthen the sustainability, resilience, and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s higher education institutions, the workshop will bring
together representatives from Federal Universities across the country for an intensive and practical learning experience.

The University Advancement Program Workshop, taking place in Lagos, Nigeria, from 14 June to 1 July 2026, will be delivered in five cohorts, reflecting the scale of the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to advancing institutional capacity
across Nigeria’s Federal Universities. Through this intensive training, university leaders and designated advancement professionals will acquire the knowledge, skills, and practical tools required to establish and strengthen effective advancement
functions within their institutions.

Facilitated by a distinguished faculty of international advancement experts and practitioners, and led by NHEF UAP Executive Director, Anne Okaomee, PhD. the workshop will provide participants with exposure to global best practices through
expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, case studies, and peer-learning opportunities.

Participants will explore critical areas of university advancement, including:

  • Fundraising and development;
  • Alumni relations and engagement;
  • Strategic communications and external relations;
  • Donor stewardship and stakeholder management;
  • Resource mobilization and partnership development; and
  • Building sustainable institutional advancement structures and strategies.


Recognizing the evolving landscape of higher education financing and stakeholder engagement, the workshop seeks to foster a culture of philanthropy, innovation, and strategic partnership within Nigerian universities. Participants will be equipped to
cultivate meaningful relationships with alumni, donors, corporate organizations, foundations, government stakeholders, and friends of their institutions, while developing advancement approaches tailored to the unique contexts and priorities of their universities.

The University Advancement Program Workshop reflects the shared commitment of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) to strengthening Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem. By institutionalizing
modern advancement practices, the initiative aims to support the development of financially resilient, globally competitive, and impact-driven universities that can effectively advance teaching, research, innovation, and national development.

Through this collaborative effort, Nigerian Federal Universities will be better positioned to secure greater support and resources, deepen engagement with their alumni and broader communities, and amplify their contribution to Nigeria’s social,
economic, and intellectual progress.
