Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina’s remarkable journey in leadership and agriculture is nothing short of transformative. His commitment to driving change became evident during his tenure as Nigeria’s Agriculture Minister, where he not only tackled corruption but also implemented sustainable policies that revitalized the sector. His innovative electronic wallet system, providing farmers with essential inputs via mobile phones, catalyzed a profound impact on the lives of millions.
 
At the helm of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Adesina orchestrated an extraordinary achievement by overseeing the institution’s largest-ever capital increase. This momentous milestone, with the general capital soaring from $93 billion to $208 billion, marked a pivotal moment in the Bank’s history, allowing it to expand its reach and influence across the African continent. Furthermore, his swift response to the Covid-19 pandemic through the launch of the $3 billion Covid-19 Social Bond and a $10 billion Crisis Response Facility showcased his dedication to mitigating the pandemic’s impact.
 
Dr. Adesina’s exceptional contributions have been recognized globally. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious World Food Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Agriculture,” for his outstanding work. The African Leadership Magazine named him African of the Year in 2019, a testament to his profound influence on the continent’s development. 
 
The Academy of Public Health honored him with the 2020 Distinguished Fellowship Award, acknowledging his successful efforts in mitigating the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic across Africa.
 
Recently, in February 2022, Dr. Adesina was bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate by the Federal University of Technology in Nigeria, a reflection of his exceptional leadership in agriculture, food security, development finance, and governance. His journey continues to inspire and drive change, making him a pivotal figure in Africa’s ongoing transformation.
