Nigeria Higher Education Foundation Empowers Faculty Fellows through Successful Conclusion of the 2023 Faculty Program

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) is thrilled to announce the successful completion of the inaugural edition of the NHEF Faculty Program, a transformative initiative to enhance the capacity and expertise of faculty across Nigeria’s higher education institutions. The program, which commenced on July 4th, 2023, and concluded on July 8th, 2023, brought together a cohort of sixty-one (61) distinguished faculty members, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation in the Nigerian academic landscape.

The NHEF Faculty Program is a flagship endeavour designed to empower faculty members with advanced teaching methodologies, research insights, and professional development opportunities. By investing in the university faculty, the NHEF aims to improve the overall quality of higher education in Nigeria and equip students with the knowledge and skills required for success in today’s dynamic world.

Throughout the intensive five-day program, the 2023 NHEF Faculty participants engaged in a wide range of activities and learning experiences, including:

  1. Pedagogy Enhancement Workshops: Esteemed educators and pedagogical experts conducted workshops on the latest teaching techniques, fostering interactive, student-centered learning environments that encourage critical thinking and active engagement.
  2. Research and Publication Seminars: Faculty members were equipped with valuable insights and strategies to enhance their research output and academic publication impact, thus advancing knowledge in their respective fields.
  3. Technology Integration Sessions: Recognizing the role of technology in modern education, the program included sessions on leveraging digital tools like SMART learning boards to optimize teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
  4. Curriculum Development Best Practices: The participants benefited from guidance on curriculum design and development, ensuring that academic programs remain relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with industry needs.
  5. Networking and Collaboration Opportunities: The program facilitated networking sessions, fostering collaboration among faculty from different institutions and disciplines, with the aim of encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research.

Speaking about the success of the 2023 Faculty Program, Dr. Ifeoma Nwokorie, Vice-Chair of the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the positive impact the program will have on higher education in Nigeria. “The NHEF Faculty Program plays a pivotal role in elevating our country’s education quality. By empowering our esteemed faculty with cutting-edge pedagogy and research insights, we are confident that they will inspire and guide the next generation of leaders to excel in their academic pursuits and contribute to the socio-economic growth of Nigeria.”

The NHEF Faculty Program is a testament to the Foundation’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and empowering educators as agents of positive change. As the program concludes its successful first edition, the NHEF reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of Nigeria’s higher education sector and nurturing a skilled and enlightened workforce.

The NHEF Faculty Program ended with a closing ceremony and graduation dinner where we honoured the efforts of our 2023 NHEF Faculty. The evening was memorable, with distinguished guests, HNI’s and policymakers in attendance.

The faculty returned to their respective institutions with a renewed sense of purpose, armed with the knowledge and skills to drive positive change in their communities and the nation. The NHEF remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate a brighter future for Nigeria through transformative education and skills development training.
