NHEF Higher Education Forum ignites the power of Education for Economic Transformation

The NHEF Higher Education Forum, a prestigious gathering organized by the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation, successfully took place on September 22, 2023, at the Harvard Club of New York. The event, held under the theme “Education as a Driver of Economic Development,” brought together influential stakeholders in education, business, and government to discuss the crucial role of education in fostering economic growth.

Distinguished panel sessions formed the centrepiece of the forum, addressing two central themes: “Global Best Practices and Partnerships for Economic Development: Cultivating Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and a Skilled Workforce” and “Bridging the Gap Toward Increased Economic Development: The Role of Nigerian Universities.”

Prominent speakers from leading institutions worldwide graced the forum, sharing insights and experiences on fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and the development of a skilled workforce. Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions, exploring strategies for cultivating a vibrant economic landscape through education.

The first panel session delved into global best practices and partnerships for economic development. On this panel, we had Titi Odunfa Adeoye, Chief Executive Officer, Sankore Investments; Kamal Pallan, Partner & COO, CCO, Kuramo Capital Management; Dr. Femi Pitan, Board Member, NHEF; Temilade Adelakun, Associate Product Marketing Manager, Google. The panellists highlighted the significance of fostering collaboration between academia, the private sector, and government entities to yield innovative solutions and drive economic growth. The emphasis was placed on cultivating entrepreneurship, empowering
the youth, and leveraging cutting-edge technology in various sectors.

The second panel session focused on the pivotal role of Nigerian universities in bridging the gap toward increased economic development. On this panel, we had Folawe Omikunle, CEO of Teach for Nigeria, Dr Vincent Idemyor, University of Port Harcourt & Mr Adebowale Adeosun, Director of Advancement Centre, University of Ibadan. Our Esteemed speakers discussed strategies to enhance the education system within Nigeria, empowering students with relevant skills and knowledge to thrive in the evolving job market. Collaboration between universities, industry leaders, and policymakers was emphasized as a vital component towards creating opportunities for economic growth.

The NHEF Higher Education Forum continues to serve as a crucial platform for thought leadership, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas. By spotlighting the vital role of education in driving economic development, the forum aims to foster a brighter future for Nigeria by empowering its youth.
