Nigeria has tremendous potential. It is a country blessed with tremendous supply of resources and poised to become an economic powerhouse. Between now and 2050, Africa’s population is expected to grow by 1.3 billion and it is projected that Nigeria will be the third largest country in the world by population and one of the Top 10 economies over the next decade or two. Nigeria’s abundant natural resources remains ubiquitous in its narrative. Yet, it is not oil that will determine this country’s path to becoming a global economic powerhouse- it is its people, particularly its youth that will drive the future of the nation.
The key to unlocking Nigeria’s potential lies in ensuring that the next generation are set on the path to assuming positions of leadership and in doing so advance the cause of economic development and a stable, lasting democracy. It involves providing the nation’s brightest and best talent the opportunity to excel in the field of medicine, law, finance, technology or art. Unlocking Nigeria’s potential involves nurturing the entrepreneurial talent and a drive for success that is unmatched elsewhere on the continent. Most of all, it involves organizations like NHEF working toward a future where institutions of higher education in Nigeria can deliver world-class, quality higher education to the next generation of global scholars and leaders.
The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation has a mandate of advancing access to quality higher education. We remain committed to our vision of a future in which Nigerian higher education is one of the best in the world. As such, the NHEF continues to develop a number of programs to assist Nigerian universities in its quest to improve standards of higher education.
This year we re-launched a renewed NHEF and restated our commitment to supporting Nigeria’s institutions of higher learning. We fostered new partnerships and revived our existing relationships with partner institutions. For all this and many more strides made, I would like to express my deep gratitude to our numerous donors, staff and volunteers for making 2015 a successful year for the NHEF. Your financial and energetic support made this year truly successful.
In 2016, we hope to achieve more. We will continue to collaborate with our partner universities in their quest to become self-sustaining. We look forward to expanding the reach of our strategic partnerships with institutions abroad and developing new programs for our universities and students. To achieve these goals and much more, we continue to rely on your support and look forward to including you in our initiatives. Over the course of the year, we will keep you updated on our efforts, invite you to our events and provide opportunities to support the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
